Postpartum Depression and other postpartum mood disorders affect approximately 15% of Moms within the first year of giving birth. It is believed that this statistic is in fact much higher as so many Moms do not come forward. The majority of these Moms do not get help for a variety of reasons: either they go undiagnosed, are unable to find help or never come forward because of the stigma attached to PPD.
Through Awareness and Education we can change this stigma and make it easier to find help. Canadian Moms are raising our next generation and their mental health is of top priority!
One of the biggest steps in increasing awareness and educating the public on any issue is to have the acknowledgement of the Federal Government and permanent declaration of Awareness made for all Canadians to observe. The more Canadians who become aware of this highly misunderstood illness, the less Moms & Dads there are suffering in silence!

As we create Awareness and Educate the public on any topic, we are essentially clearing away cobwebs and fear and replacing them with information and hope! As Canadians come to understand Perinatal Mood Disorders to a larger degree and how to help individuals suffering from them, the stigma will lessen and sufferers will be less afraid to talk about what they are going through and ask for help!
