In 1988, Sherry Colvin was arrested for protecting her then, 4yr old daughter ina sexually inappropriate with her "victim" as she attacked him with a dinner knife from the table, as they had just had dinner. Though Ms. Colvin ran for help, in which he did receive, he later died that night. Ms. Colvin, not being of knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and upon hearing her court appointed lawyers' advice to 'Plea Bargain' for a sentence of 40 non-aggravated years under a murder charge in 1989. Now, 24+yrs later, Ms. Colvin still sits, believing she'll be released upon her next parole hearing, now, in 2013 on her 16th try ?
When is enough time, ENOUGH ? Ms. Colvin has been eligible for release since 1992. At sentencing Ms. Colvin was not informed of a new law called, "The 3G" law, which basically means doing aggravated time on a non-aggravated sentence. Her court appoiinted lawyer she could take a 35 year aggravated sentence for voluntary manslaughter and do 11 years before parole, or take 40 non-aggravated years for mureder and do 4 years before release on parole. What mother wouldn't take the 4 years and not even hear the rest ? Since coming into TDCJ-ID's system, she has benn given several 1, 2, and 3 year set offs (Denied parole for these particular amounts of years at a time). Then in 2010 was finally granted parole called FI-1, and to no avail, 16 days later, after telling her now "Grown" children she's coming home, the decision was reversed, without her knowledge until they (parole board) would only tell her that by law, they didn't have to tell her or her people, why ! Only that they (parole board), made the decision based on "Additional confidential information". Ms. Colvin had no knowledge of such a thing happening until then, so had made plans to finally come home. Now, Ms. Colvin is once again on the round of perpetual set-offs (denials) and will be seen once again the first part of 2013. Likely, Jan. or Feb.. In 2010 she had seen a board member in a face to face interview and had been granted an FI-1 (release date) because the board member deemed her fit for release.

Quick Call To Action:
Don't let mothers who protect their children from any form of abuse have to spend decades away from their children, nor their children have to be raised by someone else solely because she was protecting her child from sexual misconduct. We prosecute women and even men for the polar opposite of this neglect. Vote for this mothers' release and vote for the "Parental Instincts" law to be made for others in this situation now or in the future. I believe 24+yrs is more than enough time away for protecting your child. Resources for information you can go to:
