The City of Jacksonville and the Jacksonville's Sheriff's Office are in the process of installing Red Light Enforcement Cameras throughout the city of Jacksonville. The cameras will be used for generating income for the city instead of protecting the citizens of the city. The cameras were recently approved under Legislation bill HB-325 "The Traffic Safety Act." The city of Jacksonville announced that permits were approved to install the first round of cameras.
The cameras will ticket the registered owner of the vehicle and not the driver/violator. The cameras cannot distinguish between driver and owner. Statistics show no safety value of red-light cameras. Case studies are available for review.
Do not let the City of Jacksonville continue with their plan to install these cameras. Tell the City of Jacksonville to enforce red light violators with regular Law Enforcement Officers who can differentiate between the owner of a vehicle and a violator of the law.

Red light cameras are not just for public safety, they are a way to rip money out of people's pockets. Did you know that if your vehicle is caught on one of these cameras that the registered owner of the vehicle gets ticketed regardless of the driver?? The camera cannot distinguish between the driver of the vehicle and the registered owner and therefore the owner gets stuck with the ticket. If you, as the owner do not pay the ticket within 30 days you will not be able to renew your REGISTRATION on your vehicle. The city is now making you enforce the terms and conditions of other people's motor vehicle license. In addition, red light cameras actually increase collisions. Here is just one link, but I'm sure the internet has a plethora of information to substantiate: http://www.motorists.org/red-light-cameras/studies
