Parkinson's is a progressive disease that steals a person's life. It takes away their independence and ability to function. Research has shown that the progression can be slowed and in some cases paused with the help of regular physical therapy and exercise. The Indiana Parkinson Foundation created such a fitness-based program, called THE CLIMB, as a means for Parkinson's patients to gather as a community in weekly fitness classes, lead by a professional physical therapist. The results have been amazing and a great kinship has been created among those that attend, creating a strong support system looking to reach even more people afflicted with Parkinson's.
THE CLIMB is currently using a donated space and it is with generous donations that the Indiana Parkinson Foundation hopes to raise the funds needed to purchase or build their own facility that would offer more open hours for people to come and work out or socialize. IPF is currently holding an annual benefit and is working to establish a charity run as well, but it is only with donations from generous supporters that they will be able to make their dream of their own facility a reality.
There is currently a facility for sale in Hamilton County that offers everything IPF would need: space to set up a gym for THE CLIMB classes, a gathering hall, and a full kitchen to allow for community functions as well as renting it out as an event space in order to support the ongoing costs of owning a facility.
