Arne Duncan Department of Education

We petition Arne Duncan, Secretary of Education in Washington D.C. ,to work with AFT and NEA to coordinate and implement pragmatic national training to reduce the grossly disapportionate number of black males placed in Special Education. $60 plus billion dollars to fuel this civil rights travesty could be used to fund more computers in inner city classrooms, pay substitute teachers decent wages, pay for pupil supplies and up-to-date textbooks, etc. Lee vs. Macon training is not working!

This petition matters if you believe that all students can expect to attend public schools without fear of being labeled as having abnormal "special needs" because some educators and school counselors don't want to deal with core issues that affects so many inner city black male students such as cycles of poverty, excessive black on black crime, school administrators suspending them at whim, some parents manipulating educators to get SSI checks, etc. Do we maintain a pipeline to the prisons for these students or try to reach one, teach one for all students?
