"The Reel Story” is that Eastland Mall was once a vibrant part of Charlotte’s landscape but now sits dormant. Central Avenue Studios (CAS), a movie production company is proposing to revitalize the East Charlotte pillar by partnering with local and regional community and business leaders, educational institutions, and family-focused organizations. CAS has created an innovative state-of-the-art economic model that promises several hundred jobs and an immeasurable impact on the city’s economic outlook. It will be the largest movie studio on the East Coast. With your help-your signature on this petition-what seems like a dream becomes a real story.
Bert Hesse, CAS’s founder remembers when Eastland Mall was the economic hub of East Charlotte. Then, it was Charlotte's’ largest mall; it housed the first food court in the state and an ice skating rink. Hesse and many others want to see Eastland Mall make history again, this time as a movie studio and mixed-use educational and business complex.
Hesse’s qualifications match his passion to bring full service movie studios and sound stages to Charlotte. He has over 10 years of experience producing feature films and documentaries and 25-plus years of experience running companies with multi-million dollar budgets. Add to that his son Evan Hesse’s experience as a nationally acclaimed composer, film maker, and director who currently heads the operations for Central Avenue Pictures (CAP) in Hollywood, CA (the West Coast division of Central Avenue Studios) and you have a recipe for surefire success.
Charlotte has several jewels that impact the city, economically and socially. The city has professional sports teams; the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center; Discovery Place; Concord Mills; NASCAR and many other attractions that add to its richness. Central Avenue Studios with the support of Charlotte residents wants to add another jewel to the crown of the “Queen City.”
Please sign the petition and forward to your friends in support of the Central Avenue Studios proposal to revitalize East Charlotte.
