No more school shootings!!
We the people, demand State and Federal Funding to help parents with their children, no matter what disorder. ODD (oppositional Defiant Disorder) children and families need help and the parents often go out looking for help, only to find no system in place to help them. Law enforcement just fines them for the inconvenience.
The States and Federal Government must all provide better state medical care and procedures in order to give families the tools that they require in order to maintain the consistency and healthy environment that all kids and adults deserve.
We can not just continue to move the mentally ill into Jails and Juvenile Halls. These places were not made or created for the mentally ill. In fact they may even keep each other from being habilitated. These two should simply not be housed in the same places and we must ensure that we have programs that are active now, so that troubled kids do not grow up to hurt people and end up in jail in the first place.

Our children and their families need help! We can not keep ignoring mental illness. Just look at all the families suffering in school shootings, particularly Sandy Hook Elementary. A class full of children. Is this what it takes to wake us up??
In 1965 this nation began to tear down its mental health systems. This process of Deinstitutionalization resulted in a severe cut of funding for mental health programs. This didn't keep people from being ill. Instead of being in mental health programs, these people were moved to other places, namely Juvenile Hall or Prison. From 1955 to 1980, the resident population in those facilities fell from 559,000 to 154,000. Out-patient care program funding was also cut. So, what about the small children who still lived at home and who's parents could not afford a psychologist? Well, many of them just do "the best" that they can. When these kids grow up, they may either do terrible things to their own family members, neighbors or community - or more likely they kill themselves to stop their own suffering. This has helped to create our current School-Shooting crisis my friends. The Community, the schools and law enforcement all need to start recognizing these issues in children. Instead of just expelling the child they need to make sure that these children are helped. Moving them from school to school does nothing to help the child or the family. In essence it only makes the symptoms and the situation worse, as the child gets more and more frustrated that he/she can't maintain friends in the same location. These people don't start out as "troubled" as you would think. Many start out as caring children who just are not well-disciplined, they have been abused or possibly they have a mental illness. I do not believe these children are inherently "bad" or "evil". A child is formed from their environment. We all are.
However, these children spend most of their lives "suffering" in a personal hell that only they can understand. Their family and friends can not even truly understand them, because they are unique.
I ask you today to create awareness for this issue. Demand State and Federal Funding to help parents with their children, no matter what disorder. There MUST be programs and funding for these programs. Current state medical care does not give a parent the tools that they require in order to maintain the consistent environment at home that we require to keep a human healthy.
There are support groups! There is some help for parents. It is minimal, but it's a start.
We can not continue to move mentally ill into Jails and Juvenile Halls. These places were not made or created for the mentally ill. In fact they may even keep our current jail inmates from being habilitated. How can you possibly be habilitated in jail when you are constantly being harassed by the mentally ill inmates? These two should simply not be housed in the same places and we must ensure that we have programs that are active NOW, so that trouble kids to not grow up to hurt people and end up in jail in the first place.
If you agree that we need State and Federal Funding of more mental health programs then please sign this petition. For the parents of the OOD child we demand help from our political leaders. Changes can only come from demanding change, so demand it!
