Spring 2013, the Quail in the Classroom Program of the NJ Outdoor Alliance Environmental Projects is growing to 21 classes and organizations. We need additional funding to help supply the needed equipment to enable students from kindergarten through high school to incubate, hatch and brood quail eggs.
The hatched chicks are returned to the program for rearing over the summer before release into approved areas.
The program started in 2010 with only 7 participating classes and over the past 2 years we have released over 300 adult quail. While this program does not expect to have an impact on quail restoration in New Jersey, we do feel that education about the status of wild northern bobwhite quail in New Jersey and upland bird habitat is critical.
Most schools consider this program an extra curricular activity and support has come from both individuals and organizations. We hope that you will consider a tax deductible donation to help this important program continue and grow.
