We request that President Obama award Victoria Soto (posthumously) with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her bravery during the Sandy Hook shooting. Ms. Soto exhibited bravery above and beyond an ordinary teacher or civilian in the protection of the children entrusted to her care at Sandy Hook. She paid the ultimate sacrifice, her life, just as many of our armed forces personnel have done to protect us. Through her actions she has served her country with honor and distinction. Another consideration is that Congress could award her the Congressional Gold Medal.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is an award bestowed by the President of the United States and is—along with the comparable Congressional Gold Medal bestowed by an act of U.S. Congress—the highest civilian award in the United States. It recognizes those individuals who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors".* We want want a true American hero to be acknowledged for her ultimate sacrifice. Victoria heroically gave her life to protect her students and we should recognize her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
