Dear Friend of Panzi Foundation USA,
Panzi Hospital has provided healing and hope to more than 30,000 women victimized by sexual violence in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. For 16 years the Hospital has pioneered the treatment of rape trauma, despite chronic shortages of funding and equipment.
But medical care for devastating physical injuries is only part of the healing process. Many women cannot return to their homes. Some need trauma counseling; some are abandoned by their families.
Mateso is a 23-year-old mother of two small children and a patient at Panzi Hospital for injuries from rape. She completed treatment but was rejected by her husband because of the stigma associated with sexual violence. Unable to read or write, with no skills to support her children, Mateso's future is bleak.
Panzi Foundation USA helps bridge this gap. For thousands of women like Mateso, Panzi Foundation supports literacy, vocational, and child-care programs that rebuild lives and restore hope. Please read more about our programs at panzifoundation.com.
Sadly, the violence rages on in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. With renewed conflict just hours away from Panzi Hospital, our work is more critical than ever. Please help Panzi Foundation USA meet the needs of courageous women like Mateso.
