Woodley Island's value to our community as a working harbor and accessible open space area needs to preserved.
* Woodley Island was developed “to encourage, protect, maintain and provide commercial fishing facilities and uses related to the commercial fishing industry.”
* Eureka’s Municipal Code states that Woodley Island is a “scenic coastal area of public importance.” It is a community asset that provides an inviting and safe place for residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors.
* An RV park using the public open space and part of the fishermen’s work area would irrevocably damage Woodley Island’s value to our community.

The Harbor District is searching desperately for ways to raise funds which will be needed to replace the docks in 20 - 30 years, and is thinking that an RV Park on Woodley Island is a good solution. A feasibility study was created which left many more questions than answers. The CEO has experience with RV parks, and thinks this is our financial godmother. Other avenues for income generation need to be explored, and Woodley Island needs to be preserved for public use. Our best chance of doing this is to convince at least 3 of the 5 Board members that an RV park on Woodley is not a good choice.
