Let’s be clear, this title is ironic for us Egyptians.
When it comes to saying NO, we are no artists. We are barely practitioners.
Our impulse towards YES is so strong and habitual that NO gets caught by and wrapped in a whole swirl of emotions. We want to please, honour, support, show appreciation, help and offer all we’ve got, and saying yes feels like the way to do that.
NO gets caught in our throats. NO presses on our hearts. NO tightens up our chests and feels unnatural.
NO feels like we are rejecting something, disappointing someone, letting someone down. NO feels like we are dismissing something, dominating someone or disconnecting in general.
NO is painful.
YET NECESSARY, LIBERATING AND HONOURS ALL OF US.
NO makes space for yes. NO makes space for the purest, sweetest, deepest expression of who we are and what we want to say yes to.
NO shows respect; to you. to me……..to priority.
Discernment and Self-Respect are NO’s escorts and bodyguards.
NO is a practice. NO to others, NO to self, NO
I WANT ALL THE EGYPTIANS TO SAY NO.
NO to all the crazy things that have been and is still happening to us by our leaders and the Western world, NO to what they have been doing to us for way too long that’s no longer nourishing. NO to requests that strain, drain or fire up resentment. NO to the ways we permit ourselves to be used. NO to distractions, compulsions, destructions and false promises. NO to mind tricks and self-degradation. NO to unlawful punishment. NO to wasting time. NO to being rigid sticklers. NO to being a no to life.
If you are Egyptian or simply a human being who cares, please join me in saying NO to what is happening in our country and in the whole of the Middle East.
Let us feel spacious and alive. Then we really know where we are when we say………… YES
