Bolivian Government

Jacob Ostreicher is a friend of Sean Penn´s. He is also an American citizen imprisoned by the government of Evo Morales under the accusation of illegal enrichment. Nothing has been proved, but he is still in prison after two years.

First came his lawyers, trying to get him out. They couldn´t. Then came the US Embassy officers. Nothing happened. Ostreicher got sick, really sick. His doctors tried to put him in a clinic. They couldn´t. It took Sean Penn and his very intelligent move to take him out to a clinic.

Sean came to La Paz, Bolivia, and got a big media coverage when he visited president Morales, who named him Bolivian Ambassador of good will for noble causes. Very impressive! Morales and Penn got to be good friends, and on his way back to the US, Sean Penn landed in Santa Cruz to pay a visit to his friend Ostreicher. He got a lot of media coverage. He denounced what was going on: Ostreicher was being illegally held in prison. He achieved the impossible: a permission for the prisoner to go to a clinic.

After Sean left, Morales´ popularity in the world was seriously damaged. He would not let that happen. In a one month investigation, the Governance Minister, Carlos Romero, found a chain of lawyers, ministry officers, and public service people who were part of a corrupt team taking away all of Ostreicher’s goods and money. They had spent his money, sold his rice and other goods, and had asked him for US$50,000 to free him at the beginning of the legal process.

Good job Sean Penn! Nobody else could have done this for this human being lost in the middle of such powerful mafia encrusted in the Bolivian justice. The corruption net would not be public if it wasn´t for Sean Penn. Jacob could have died if it wasn´t for Sean Penn. Morales is afraid that the world will know the truth about his deeply ill regime, and is trying to look good to the international public opinion.

May I ask, though, if this is the only case? No. It is only one more of so many cases doomed by Evo´s justice, in the name of his “revolution to live right”. Many of the prosecuted people have died in prison, as this regime had sworn most opposition members would eventually. Many of them are still in prison. Many more are exiled, escaping from Evo´s crooked justice.

Signed,

Saul Bejarano

It is time for Sean Penn to come and complete the task. We need to come up with an amnesty for all the political prisoners, for all the prisoners without a fair trial, for all prisoners without a sentence after two years of imprisonment. Come on Sean! Let us do this. Come help us. Show the world that being a socialist does not mean thinking that justice is only for the friends of the regime. Show us we can trust you. Come, help others in need.
