Along the coast of Toa Baja, Puerto Rico there is an 16 acre land known as La Haciendo el Plantaje de Toa Baja, in which they cut over 2,000 trees in order to build an outlet mall. We propose to make it an area of conservation for animals, plants, art, culture, and education. Located within this area is a chapel from the 17th century, 3 ancient cemeteries, and there have been Taino Indian artifacts found. Also this area has a direct impact upon its marine life, such as the sea turtles that lay their eggs along the coast, the land crabs which are left without habitat, and many others. This area is also ideal to harbor endangered plant species , especially one mango tree species called the Cobana Negra, which can only be found here in Puerto Rico. This area also serves as an air filter for only a couple miles away located is a thermal electric plant. Since 1992 until 2010 Puerto Rico has suffered a 71% increase of CO2, thus an intense increase of temperature and sicknesses.

This is a communal effort, we must stand together and demand a change. We must preserve our history to not repeat our past mistakes, we must take care of our plants and animals because directly or indirectly we survive off one another. We must find our place within the world and be apart of it, not destroy and manipulate it. Together we can make a lasting difference.
