La Vergne Police- Tennessee

Dear La Vergne Police, we the undersigned are appalled by this animal cruelty news, and the killing of an innocent 3 month old little puppy named Jada.
Jada had wandered innocently into neighbor George Garrett's backyard- he then admits that he shot little puppy Jada twice. Jada sadly died due the injuries sustained, and George Garrett defended his cruel act by stating that there is a leash law in Tennessee and he did not want to step in the dog's excrement.
Please make this act of killing a felony crime and punish George Garrett with more than just a silly slap on the wrist and a small fine.
George Garrett acted out of spite and hatred for a little puppy who didn't know that she had wandered into such danger.
Jada was a much loved family member and her life mattered!
Sincerely ...

Signed,

Jessy Svetanoska

LA VERGNE, Tenn.
– After losing a pet, Airel Duffer, knew "Jada" - a 3-month-old, 3 lb., 4 oz. "Min Pin" – or Miniature Pinscher would be perfect.
"I wanted another baby because we kind of filled a void after we didn't have one," Duffer said from her home Wednesday. "She brought the joy back that the kids love, especially when you're used to having a little dog."
On Sunday, Duffer said they took Jada out to use the bathroom when something went terribly wrong.
"She came out and she loved leaves, so she was chasing a leaf. I went back in to get her collar because I was going to put her on the tie out," she said.
Jada wandered into a neighboring backyard. Moments later, the neighbor's grandson was at her door to deliver some bad news.
"He said 'somebody shot your dog,' and I was like 'what?'" she said. "I went over there and sure enough, but she couldn't get up. So I picked her up and saw two little wounds on her."
Jada had been shot twice. It only took a little investigating for Duffer to realize the boy's grandfather, George Garrett, pulled the trigger.
Duffer told News Channel 5 that Garrett defended his cruel act by stating that there is a leash law in Tennessee and he did not want to step in the dog's excrement.
Unfortunately, the three pound puppy did not know where her yard ended and Garrett's began, and Garrett chose to take his anger out in a lethal manner rather than walking next door to strike up a conversation about his concerns with Jada's owner.
On Wednesday, the authorities issued a misdemeanor citation to Garrett for intentionally killing an animal.
Duffer said her veterinarian was going to try surgery Wednesday to remove the bullets, but Jada passed away Monday night.
