Sign the Petition to

Premier Rufus Ewing, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands.

We demand that you stop all planning for a new dolphinarium in Turks and Caicos. These dolphinariums are terrible environments for Marine Wildlife, causing stress and injury to the dolphins within them. Public sentiment in Turks and Caicos is against the building of this new dolphinarium. Even the local Chamber of Commerce has voiced it's opposition and we urge you stop the dolphinarium from being built.

The reason you should sign this petition (among many other reasons) is there really is no way that an artificial setting could provide an opportunity for the range of natural behaviours that Dolphins and Whales enjoy in the wild, just from a physical point of view. The largest tank in the world is something like less than one ten-thousandth of one percent of the natural range of most Dolphins and Whales. So there's physically no way that these animals could exhibit natural behaviours in captivity. I know that some members of the captivity industry have made the point that in captivity these animals are fed fish and they don't need to deal with the stress of capturing their own prey. But in fact, being fed dead fish can be a stress. In the wild, they really enjoy the opportunity to collaborate with each other and catch prey and travel with their companions, and basically work for their prey. In captivity, all of that stimulation is taken away. So there is a lot of scientific evidence that shows that Dolphins and Whales — both wild-born and captive-born — exhibit a lot of psychological abnormalities in captivity.

It is known that the first 4 Animals will come from Jamaican facilities owned by Dolphin Cove Ltd. This is the same company that is planning on building the new dolphinarium in Turks and Caicos. They can be contacted through the following link. http://www.dolphincovejamaica.com/contact.htm Please let them know your concerns about this matter. And remember to be polite and to the point. Thank you.
