Dear Governor Andrew M. Cuomo
Amendment II US Constitution states:A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
The requirement of a long, drawn out process to obtain the ability to excercise the right to bear arms is an infringment of our constitutional rights. It is an outdated system, made so by instant background checks which allow a firearms seller to ensure that there are no legal disabilities on the part of the buyer. It serves no purpose other than to make law abiding citizens lives that much more difficult and dangerous. For many, the purchase of a handgun is precipitated by a violent encounter and the wish that an encounter like that will not happen again, and if it does, they will not be helpless.
New York States Pistol Permit Law makes the posession of a handgun, the most portable and easiley carried firearm, unavailable to most due to the expense in time and money to obtain the permit. Is it right that a liberty granted by the Constitution be available only to the wealthy? Does not the poor and middle class person also have the right to defend themselves?
This system must be abolished as it is detremental to the safety of those who need the defensive firepower of a handgun. A Constitutional RIGHT!
Therefore, we the people of New York State do petition the Government of New York State to remove this illegal and obsolete system

You and your loved ones deserve the right to defend themselves. The Pistol Permit Law in New York State makes it extremely difficult to obtain a handgun. The fact is, as more citizens carry firearms, the crime rate lowers because there are less and less easy victims. Please sign this petition to remove this violation of our civil liberties. thank you
