Growing the awareness of bullying and cyber-bullying is not enough. We need to make a change. Bullying affects us all. WE want to see those people young and old who choose to bully to have consequences for their actions. Teens taking their life due to bullying should not be brushed under the rug. People who choose to bully need to have consequences for their choice. Parents of bullies need to take responsibility. Sentences ranging from probation, community service, mandatory counseling, family counseling, fines and jail time are all appropriate consequences depending on the severity. Intervention needs to start with parenting and in the schools. Schools adopting a "whole-school" intervention would help educate children to be more empathetic.

People should sign this petition to demand a change. Bringing awareness once a year with a pink t-shirt day is clearly not enough. I will not stand quietly aside and read or hear about another teen that took their life due to bullying. Bullying must have consequences or it will never stop. (this is not a "bully witch hunt", but a cause to seek and demand more effective ways of bully intervention. Educating parents and teachers on how to teach young children coping mechanisms that deal with emotions, aggression and violence are key to this cause).
