Mayor Donna H. Hemmann and the Town Council of Wethersfield, Connecticut

The death of 72 year-old Josefa Mariposque should be a significant wake up call for the Town of Wethersfield, residents of Wethersfield and surrounding town and motorists who frequent the area on Wolcott Hill Road by Bliss Market, Leo's Pizza and Speros Package Store.

We are urging for the town to take action and implement a traffic management system which will slow down the flow of traffic, add a full directional stop and make the area of Wolcott Hill Road surrounding Bliss Market, Speros and Leos including Beverly Rd, Dale Rd and Clearfield Rd.

Wolcott Hill Road is home to these three shops which have been institutions in the neighborhood for several years, Wethersfield High School, and extremely close to multiple elementary schools and the middle school.

Unfortunately it has gotten this far with out any action. According to Department of Transportation statistics, there have been more than 200 crashes on the two-mile stretch of road since 2007. The top three causes of crashes were following too closely, failure to grant right of way and drivers losing control of their vehicles.

We have the opportunity to make small changes that can help members of the neighborhood, local business customers and prevent incidents to the severity of what happened with the fatal crash that killed Josefa Mariposque on October 9, 2012.

Signed,

Brendan Grimaldi

How this will help

Please support this cause to urge the Town of Wethersfield to install a new system to regulate the speed and flow of traffic at the intersection at Wolcott Hill Road at Bliss Market/Leo's Pizza/Speros plaza before anyone else is hurt!
