Something big is happening on October 11th. The world is celebrating its very first Day of the Girl. Well-deserved, no doubt. A staggering lack of resources and access to education are just a couple of the major barriers keeping millions of girls from realizing their full potential. That's a lot of unrealized potential.
And still, girls are finding ways to overcome those obstacles everyday. They're challenging norms, blazing trails and building bridges to access in every arena, from education, to business, and, as we just witnessed with the Olympics, to SPORT.
Safe and accessible facilities, girl-specific workshops, trained and consistent female coaches, parent engagement, good equipment, and creative scheduling – these things help girls build those bridges.
We know sport has the power to create positive change in girls' lives. Through a supportive team and coaches focused on the whole person, girls can define and reach tangible goals on and off the pitch. As a coach in the Oakland program and Granada volunteer, I've seen first-hand how Soccer Without Borders (SWB) provides that space.
Together, we can strengthen the next generation of girls. Let's start today by supporting SWB!
