Chief Minister,Odisha

National Highway number 26(NH43) passes through the Koraput which connects it with Raipur and Vishakapatnam. Out of total stretch of 551 Kms,152 Kms passes through odisha, called lifeline of entire region. Koraput happens to be one of the mineral rich, backward tribal district of the country.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, a defence enterprise of the Government of India is only 15 km from Koraput town. This HAL factory makes military aircraft engines for MiG and Sukhoi assembly line. It employs 5000 engineers and technicians, all are staying in the township next to the factory. The National Aluminium Company Ltd.(NALCO), Damanjodi also has its significance to boost up the economy of Koraput district. Around 2500 engineers & technicians are engaged in the process of extraction of Alumina from Bauxite. Other than the employees there are thousands of workers engaged by hundreds of contractors. Nearby Semliguda has developed as a commercial centre of the district and has become a good market catering to the people of Semliguda as well as of nearby sunabeda and damanjodi.

Apart from Industries, this region also known as Kashmir of Odisha with tourist spot like Sabara Srikhetra, Deomali, Duduma Water Fall, Gupteswar Temple, Kolab Dam, Dumuriput Hanuman Temple, Tribal Museum, Aeronautical Museum etc.The elevating ghat roads spirally ascending the lofty hills and descending the steep valleys with blind curves also another tourist attraction along with railway tunnels. Koraput abounds in the imprints of Orissa's glorious past. Temples monasteries and other historical monuments from the medieval period, breathtaking in their beauty and of incalculable historical importance, stands as footprints of time, telling the story.

Despite of all, this mineral rich area is facing problem of pre-independence era. The current state of NH 26(NH43), passing through the Koraput which connects it with Raipur and Vishakapatnam is so bad that it’s literally a death-trap.

HAL, NALCO, BILT, Mangalam Timber, HINDALCO are among the industries in these areas who are solely depended on NH26 to transport equipments, raw materials, finished goods to the ports/Airport/Rail transport at Vishakhapatnam.

With the establishment of Central University of Odisha, the region also attracts students and parents from outside areas to travel to and fro from these region.

Thus the highway traffic with bad road conditions, pending constructions makes it a nightmare for general public as well as the industries to commute this stretch of the highway. Many are also discouraged to visit these places from tourism prospective. An improved NH26 can make a huge difference in the lives of the residents and the region as a whole.

We request for Rigid Pavement (Concrete) for NH26(43) for the entire length from Andhra border to Koraput for improvement of this tribal District. This will also provide the basic necessity for the road transport and economic justice to the entire region.

Here are some recent news articles that highlights the miserable and dangerous state of the highway.
