Dear Mayor: KYRIAKOS CHARAKIDIS
Mr. Laleh Stratos, Mr. Giannis Etoglou
Animal lovers and animal rights activists from the online media page GREECE EXPOSED would like to bring to your attention the plight of a male dog in your municipal shelter in Drama Greece Mr. Laleh Stratos from the Office of Rural Production and Fisheries is the overall Manger whilst Mr. Giannis Etoglou Vice Mayor of Drama and is the Manager of the Drama Municiple Shelter on a day to day basis.
We believe the dog has been imprisoned at this municipality run shelter for between 8 - 10 years and has been refused adoption on the orders of an individual from the welfare group running the shelter as she claims the dog to be too aggressive for adoption which has been refuted by visitors of the shelter who have 'hand fed' the dog and has shown no signs of aggression during contact with complete strangers.
We understand the dog has never left his imprisoned cage for his entire stay at the shelter except on one occasion when the dog was neutered and thereafter was returned to his cage and has never left it since.
The online web page used to promote adoptions for the Municipal shelter GREECE EXPOSED has searched as far back as 2010 and can confirm that the dog in question has never appeared on the web page in order to promote and find the dog adoption. Therefore we can confirm that the shelter Manager is keeping the dog a PRISONER, confined to a cage, in solitude with no exercise which we consider animal abuse.
This is now the second occasion in the last 2 weeks that your Municipality of Drama to which you are Mayor has reached international awareness for animal abuse. Animal lovers and animal rights activist around the globe where SHOCKED at the images of the 2 starved dogs from the EMKA factory which led to one dog being starved to death whilst chained to a wooden box. The second dog was found inside the factory, starving and emaciated and in an extraordinary move by the factory owners the dog disappeared and it's whereabouts and welfare have never been disclosed by the owners of the factory EMKA to this day.
Unfortunately the shelter manager Vice Mayor Giannis Etoglou does not even know the dog exsists as Manger of the shelter for 2 years. When GREECE EXPOSED informed Mr.Giannis Etogiou about the dogs plight he replied.
''The last two years which I am responsible for the municipal shelter, I have never refused the adoption of any dog.
If You can help for the adoption of the dog you mention or any other dog living in our shelter I personally would be grateful to You''
Unfortunately Mayor Charakidis your Vice Mayor, the Manager of the shelter for over 2 years doesn't even know what dogs are inside the shelter or that this dog has been imprisoned for between 8-10 years.
We would ask Mayor KYRIAKOS CHARAKIDIS for your intervention in this matter and investigate why the Municipality shelter of Drama Manager is refusing adoption offers for this dog and prefers instead to keep the dog a prisoner inside a cage. We would ask for an independent evaluation of the dogs behavior by an expert to which GREECE EXPOSED would be willing to fund in order to confirm what eyewitnesses have already stated that the dog in question has shown NO signs of aggression even when hand fed and should therefore be immediately promoted for adoption and the clear infliction of animal abuse on the dog by the shelter Manager should STOP immediately to allow animal welfare organisations the opportunity to find this poor dog adoption.
We hope your intervention will resolve this matter and GREECE EXPOSED will be able to report to animal lovers and animal rights activists around the globe that you have successfully allowed the dog to be officially classed as 'looking for adoption'
