Last year, Northern Kenya experienced its worst drought in SIX decades. Across the Horn of Africa the drought and resulting famine affected over 10 million people, and at the height of the disaster, the average walking distances to water reached over 30 miles.
For a number of years, Blood:Water Mission has been working in deeply-affected regions of Northern Kenya in the Marsabit District. Through our efforts in developing access to water and medical care, lives were saved in the face of the crisis. In that time, relief work was vital, but now, even more so, is the need for sustainable long-term solutions. History doesn't have to repeat itself.
We want YOU to Build a Dam–a water dam. This dam will help this community prepare for future droughts and contribute to food security through small-scale irrigation farming. At $75,000 for the construction, that's $25 to give a lifetime of water to each person. And that is exactly what we are asking for–$25 per person...1 for 1. Already 1000 people have access to the dam - but we can't build 1/3 of a dam - We believe that another 2,000 Blood:Water supporters can come together - Build your piece of the dam–your piece of one other person's hope and confidence in their future.
Give a Dam today - and tweet that you want your friends to #GiveADam too -
