Australian Federal Government

I was disgusted to hear about the 5 deaths of Australian soldiers today, before the ADF had time to inform families properly!! I am VERY passionate about this topic as I was nearly one of those fallen soldiers a few years back in Oruzgan province. If I had died and known my family, friends or work mates were informed by the media of my death I would come back and haunt every journalist who had dealt with the story.
There is no excuse for families, already under HUGE amounts of stress, to be thrown in to limbo as to the health and well-being of their sons and daughters serving OUR country on operations overseas.
The ADF has set protocol in place to deny outgoing communications from areas of operations as to give them (the ADF) time to properly notify the fallen soldiers next of kin and give them time to grieve before it is made public at the families discretion.
I think the Federal Government (since they are the ones running the ADF ultimately) should impose a VERY substancial monetary fine to ANY media agency releasing the deaths, injuries or major incidents involving ADF troops on operations prior to the official ADF press release by the CDF. The money raised will be donated straight to Legacy (20%) and the RSL (20%) and to the family involved (60%). The more families, the more the fine!

Signed,

Andrew Cox

If you agree, please join my cause to put more pressure on the Australian Government to impose such laws to stop the profiteering media destroying lives for the sake of a few dollars and a 10min head start on a competing agency.

There are approximately 1,500 troops currently deployed to Afghanistan at the moment. If each of them have a mother and a father, a sibling and 30% had a spouse that means there are over 6,000 directly effected people back here in Australia absolutely terrified that their son or daughter is "that person"….
Needlessly shunted in to a surreal world of panic, trauma, emptiness and doubt… For what? A head start on the competitors headlines? A few extra dollars?
I ask you if it is worth the anguish displaced on to these innocent families…..
