The Ifugao Rice Terraces are 2,000 years old and are the main tourist attractions for the province. The terraces were carved in the side of the mountains and provide level fields that enable natives to plant and grow rice. They were declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995 and have been an expression of sacred native traditions for the region and the country. The Ifugao Rice Terraces epitomize the absolute blending of the physical, socio-cultural, economic, religious, and political environment. Indeed, it is a living cultural landscape of unparalleled beauty. They are the priceless contribution of Philippine ancestors to humanity. In 2001, the Ifugao Rice Terraces were placed on the List of World Heritage in Danger* Sign the petition to declare that they should be protected.
