Weymouth & Portland Borough Council

HS4B has been unrecognized and unfunded by Weymouth & Portland County Council since it’s conception over 4 years ago.

The view of our MP, Mr Richard Drax; which is shared by a majority of the local councilors and council officials has been highly prejudiced towards us to say the least.
Put concisely by Mr. Drax “One can’t possibly put one’s name to those kinds of people”.

More than £5,000 per week is spent by the Communities Department and although we have contacted them on numerous occasions, not one person employed by the Communities Department has ever been to see us.

More than 1 Million bottle tops were collected by the local community for us to recycle, every single one of these unfortunately went into the landfill due to the refusal of help from our Local Council.

£350,000 was spent on the ‘Sticks & Stones’ sculpture – with this money we could have given 20 people much needed employment plus invested in another twenty people as volunteers.

At our previous premises, we’d worked our recycling methods to such a fine art that a decrepid 3 seater sofa could be recycled down to such a point that what was left for the landfill would fit into a carrier bag. Yet, with all the thousands of pounds the Council spends on advertising to advise people on eco-consciousness they didn’t bother to recognize nor support our efforts.

We estimate that during the time we were recycling, our staff and volunteers prevented in excess of twenty tones of waste from becoming fodder for landfill sites.
Imagine the impact we could have made with the small amount of help we are still asking for.

Although the option for bankruptcy has not only been stigmatized for so long, but also, like any system can be abused by some, there are legitimate cases where bankruptcy is the only option open to people.

Is there not something honorable about someone having the determination, passion and self respect to not want to be a continuous drain on the system? And that the community wants to improve their situation and “get back on their feet”?
Perhaps they just need a little help & support so they can do this.

HS4B has been completely ignored, unfunded and at times persecuted for over four years.
If you like 98% of the people we speak to think that this is four years too long, then please sign our petition to show that we have the support of the public in asking for the support of the local authorities.

Signed,

Harrie Lambert
