A 22Q Mobile Awareness Campaign (The 22Q Msytery Bus)
The 22Q Mystery Bus inspires people from every walk of life to ask, "What is 22Q?". Planned and organized by Texas Rangers, Pitcher, Ryan Dempster and The Dempster Family Foundation, it is a grassroots initiative to help "drive" awareness of 22q Deletion Syndrome a disorder Dempster's daughter, Riley, was diagnosed with in 2009.
Our bus crosses the country visiting families who are "driving" awareness of 22q Deletion Syndrome in their own backyards!
We encourage each and every familiy to roll up their sleeves and tell the world about this syndrome which is so common that out of thousands of chromosome disorders it is second only to Down Syndrome.
Raising awareness of rare disorders can only be accomplished through a collective effort of informed families and friends who care enough to get invovled... and we intend to help them do so.
Riley's godmother, Michelle Breedlove Sells, heads this distinctive mobile campaign for 22q and recognized the value in taking the long way from point A to point B when your mission is to educate the general public. "Now, everywhere we go is an opportunity to "drive" awareness of 22Q Deletion Syndrome. I don't have to hope people want to hear about our cause… THEY ASK US ABOUT OUR CAUSE everywhere we take the bus!" Admittedly the bus is somewhat vague, but that was by design so people would be compelled to solve the mystery and check out the www.22QBus.com website where they will quickly learn a few simple facts about 22q. Most people snap photos with a cell phone and post to their social media feeds. On the 22QBus.com website you'll find videos we've collected along the way and sent in from people everywhere simply stating "I'm on the bus for kids with 22Q". Several celebrities have already joined the ride like Cedric the Entertainer, PGA legend, Hale Irwin, and American Picker, Mike Wolfe. The only question is... Will you?
