VIA has two core programs, sending U.S. volunteers to Asia, and bringing university students from Asia to the United States.
VIA has been sending trained volunteers and teachers for the past 12 years to strengthen the work of the Guangzhou English Training Center for the Handicapped (GETCH), which provides very critical opportunities for disabled students in China to improve their education and livelihood. To learn more about the school, please visit: www.canpei.com
VIA is now bringing students from this school in China to participate in another VIA program during the summer at Stanford to develop leaders and changemakers. To learn more about the XSEL program, please visit: www.viaprograms.org/asian_students/xsel/overview
For selected students from GETCH (many who have never traveled outside of China or even outside their home province), this is an invaluable opportunity to develop confidence and find support to engage with local issues in their community after the program.
Past scholarship recipients have returned to work for local community foundations, participate in diversity programs at their workplace, and organize service projects in their school in China.
