By now, you’ve probably all heard about
the dangers of texting while driving.
You know that you’re 50 percent more likely to get in a car accident while texting than if you’re not driving distracted. You know that teens are more likely to die as a result of texting while driving, because teens do the most texting and have the least amount of driving experience.
Do you still text and drive? "Just every once and awhile," you say. "Not enough for it to really be dangerous or harmful."
No. Any amount of texting while driving is potentially fatal, and has been proven to be four times more dangerous than driving drunk. That’s why we’ve pledged not to text and drive. Ever. Are you up for the challenge?
Under no circumstances will I ever text or read texts while operating a motor vehicle.
If I need to check my phone, I will have a passenger do it for me. If I am driving alone, I will pull over to a parking lot or other safe location.
I will not ride with drivers who text while driving.
If my friends text and drive, I will let them know that it bothers and worries me.
I pledge not to text and drive for my own safety, but also for the safety of all other drivers on the road.
Texting and driving kills people and ruins lives. I will not contribute to this epidemic.
HELP PROTECT AND SAVE LIVES ON THE ROAD.
