Stand up for Tibet!
Saturday 10 March: Be in the Streets | Join the Resistance

Saturday 10 March is the anniversary of both the 1959 and 2008 Uprisings in Tibet; an extremely significant date in the Tibetan calendar.

With Tibetans in Tibet taking such risks to get their message heard and acted upon by the outside world, it is critical that we be on the streets in larger numbers than ever before; raising our voices, calling on governments to act and challenging China's extreme actions in Tibet.

This 10 March, join the resistance and let's give a roar of support to Tibetans in Tibet that will echo across the Plateau. Visit www.March10.org to find a protest near you.

26 Tibetans have set fire to themselves in eastern Tibet since March 2009; 13 since January 2012. At least 19 have died including three nuns, a reincarnate lama and a mother of four. These unprecedented acts are a cry to the outside world for help.

A new wave of protests broke out in January 2012, with demonstrators calling for freedom in Tibet and the return of the Dalai Lama. Chinese security forces have responded to these peaceful protests by opening fire on demonstrators, killing at least five Tibetans and seriously injuring many more.

These protests are a cry to the outside world for help. China’s merciless and violent crackdown throughout Tibet is intensifying Tibetan grievances and exacerbating the resentment felt across Tibet. This growing tragedy, if left unchecked, could spiral even further into a nation-wide crisis, unless the world acts now. The international community, both citizens and governments, must Stand Up for Tibet; Global diplomatic intervention now will save Tibetan lives.

We demand a coordinated international response by world leaders to condemn China’s repressive measures in the affected regions and across Tibet, and to institute multi-lateral mechanisms to advocate for the Tibetan people. Most immediately, we call on China to withdraw its security forces from Tibet areas now, and stop the ongoing harassment and torture of monks.
