How this will help

Although we can't prevent disasters from happening, we can control how we prepare for them. You should take time to talk with your household about what you would do in an emergency situation. By preparing in advance, you will be able to better navigate the after-effects of a disaster.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) encourages Americans to take several steps to get ready:

1.) Develop an emergency plan and decide where you and your family will reunite after a disaster
2.) Gather supplies for your home and to take with you if you must leave in a hurry
3.) Learn the types of threats that exist in your area and how you can stay informed

For more information and resources on how to get prepared, check out FEMA's website:

We need to make plans for our four-legged friends, too - check out Petfinder's website for tips:

To help those affected by the tornadoes in the South and Midwest, community leaders are asking that you donate to relief efforts. The American Red Cross and Foundation are reputable nonprofits providing emergency services on the ground.
