Severe drought, entrenched poverty, conflict and lack of investment have pushed more than 12 million people in Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia into a fight for survival. The drought and food crisis building for months in East Africa has now become a famine - a term reserved for the most severe situations - in parts of conflict-plagued Somalia. 3,500 Somalis a day are fleeing their country for refuge in Ethiopia and Kenya, parts of which are suffering from the driest year in six decades.
Oxfam is working to save lives and ease the suffering in East Africa. We are on the ground providing emergency relief in and around camps, as well as working with local communities to shape long-term programs that will reduce the risk that famine will strike again. Your support can help us get there.
