Can you give $12 to get us ready for the legislative fights in 2012?
This past legislative session was a victory. We successfully fought off the attacks on working people. We built more power this year, and we're already preparing for NEXT year's fights. We need you to be part of Missouri Jobs with Justice.
We want 120 people to give $12 in 12 days, starting with Friday, May 13th - the end of Missouri's legislative session. We've worked hard the past 5 1/2 months, and now we have 6 1/2 months to organize and educate. When January comes, we'll be ready.
--RIGHT TO ORGANIZE
-Paycheck Deception: Coordinated in-district meetings with legislators, organized volunteer canvasses and phone banks, mobilized for statewide April 28 Workers Memorial Day events
-Right to Work for Less: Worked with local unions to mobilize over 5,000 for rallies statewide
-Minimum Wage Repeal Bill: Stopped our legislators from stripping away the Cost of Living Adjustment that is tied to inflation. This keeps our state's lowest paid workers from falling behind, every year.
-Back Door Repeal: After the House cut all of the funding for the Department of Labor's child labor, prevailing wage and minimum wage inspectors, hundreds of your emails poured into the Senate and pressured them into reinstating 7 of the 9 inspectors. This protects the enforcement for some of our most basic, fundamental labor laws
-Over 800 volunteers worked with MO JwJ and their allies to overwhelmingly pass to retain the Earnings Tax in Kansas City (78%) and St. Louis (89%). Retaining the Earnings Tax protects our cities' most vital public services and workers.
--HUMAN RIGHTS ACT
-Senate Bill 188 would have undermined key provision of the Human Rights Act, rolling back vital civil rights protections for Missouri workers. Along with civil rights, social justice and labor organizations around the state, we generated emails and phone calls encouraging Governor Nixon to VETO the bill - and he did.
