Every year, Sierra Club gives 200,000 kids wilderness adventures through our Inner City Outings (ICO) program, Building Bridges to the Outdoors program, Water Sentinels fishing trips and additional programs. These experiences not only provide youth with lifetime memories, but also an understanding of how that wilderness must be protected. From the first time a young person from the city sleeps under the stars to our growing group of young people testing mercury levels in their local waterways, Sierra Club makes the connection between the way we live, and its effect on the environment. Moreover, students who participate in Sierra Club youth programs are more likely to do well in school, particularly science and math. A Sierra Club funded study by the California Department of Education showed a 27% increase in students' science test scores after a week-long outdoor experience. Your gift will help get more kids outdoors through a combination of public education, environmental litigation, grassroots training, publishing, and research.
