Help spread the word about this video.Oil dependence threatens our national security. Because our military is the largest consumer of fuel in the world, reliance on fossil fuel places a burden on our troops. The price of oil is high and unpredictable, which creates a challenge for our military budget. Whenever the cost of oil spikes, our military has to pay big time—even a $10 increase per barrel can create a budget shortfall of more than $1 billion. These budget shortfalls force our military to make cuts in other essential areas like training and readiness for our troops.
In response to these problems, the U.S. military is leading the way in development of clean energy. The Navy is developing advanced biofuels that can be dropped into its ships and aircraft. The Army is developing a hybrid-electric drivetrain Humvee that delivers the same performance, power, and protection but with 90 percent better fuel efficiency. The Marine Corps has reduced the number of dangerous fuel convoys needed to supply forward operating bases in Afghanistan by using solar blankets and solar tents to recharge the batteries that power their equipment.
Our military has always stayed strong and kept us safe by investing in innovation. We have the most powerful military in the history of the world because our forces have continually innovated and relentlessly worked to be the best. This innovation not only keeps us safe but improves our day-to-day lives. The military has been instrumental in developing technologies like microwaves, GPS, the internet, digital photography, jet engines and cell phones. Clean energy can be another military innovation success story, that is why we need your help.
Despite the benefits of using clean energy, Congress wants to prevent the military from pursuing these innovative solutions. We need your help to secure our country and support our troops. Sign our petition and tell Congress that you support military clean energy programs.

You packed the stands at a huge event in Norfolk, VA, featuring Navy officers explaining why clean energy is mission-critical. You gathered more than 17,000 signatures for our petition. You brought Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus to speak with members of Operation Free in the halls of Congress.

Posted on Apr 30What an event! A huge crowd turned out yesterday in Norfolk,VA to hear about the nexus between national security, climate change, and our energy future. Operation Free members, retired naval officers, and active duty sailors showed us that our dependence on oil threatens our national security, from the Naval bases near Norfolk to the Strait of Hormuz.
The military doesn't take these threats lightly and neither should we. The Navy is developing innovative technologies to increase energy...

Being a soldier is offering up your life for your country.You do it without thinking,your life belongs to your country because you believe your country will support you and be there for you when it all goes wrong.Thats not always the case.Too many people offer up their lives for politicians and their decisions, to achieve nothing.Fight for what you believe in but don,t be bullshitted by politics.Love your country and be there for it when it need,s you.

(While all of us, your fellow Americans appreciate your dedication and service to this country - unfortunately, there are a few who have lots of money, lots of power, and lots of influence up in Washington, who will use your love and dedication to this country the wrong way, and will use your life and service for *their* gain!)
Again, I wish to thank you - and all of the other men and women out there who have served this country! (Some have even gone so far to give all they had - their lives - for what they loved and what they believed in: their country.) I'm just so sorry that some don't feel the need to be honest, and to give back an enormous amount of this love and dedication to you and to the people like you. (One day, I truly hope that this will change and that the good, honest people of America will replace those who are corrupt, selfish, and evil.)

I was crying watching in the news what had happend in your country which had been for us the symbol of human rights, liberty and freedom. I believe that the American people will ovecome the terrorisme. I can not personnely help the innocent victims, I stay with all of you believing in the victory over the terrorism !
This is a back door approach against oil. PERIOD! The military already uses nuclear power and other forms of energy other than oil based products. They don't need your vote to continue what they do, but the liberal Democrats do need your vote to stamp out oil production. When I see more Democrats using less limos and stop flying on charter or government aircraft then I might think they are serious. Their matra is 1) lets take care of everyone in the world using taxpayer money, and 2) do as I say do but ignore what I do.
Nora, the Republicans DO NOT want to cut your Medicare and Social Security. They do want to adjust the age of new entries into both. THAT's not a cut. What is the fair share? Is it 100% or only 90%. This country is going broke. Look up broke in your dictionary. When that happens or gets closer to happening I guess you will blame the so called rich people for the 20% cut you get in all government benefit payments. The current cuts ARE NOT SPENDING CUTS. They are cuts to the increase in spending. Wages have gone up about 4% in this country during the past 5 years. Government spending has gone up 22%. You blame the rich. Try looking at you government for a change.

Typically, we're just happy to get mail and supplies in a fairly timely fashion.
I think we should use a portion, not even a majority of annual production, of iraqi produced oil to recoup some of the investment in dollars and blood we have put into that country to rebuild their infrastructure, remove saddam and family, help them lay the foundation for a new government and a new legal sytem, train new security forces, equip those forces, and leave enough troops behind to make sure the government there is confident that they can go forward and gain experience without fear of running into a security issue that they can't handle alone yet.
After Desert Shield / Desert Storm, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait provided enough oil to the US that when I returned home to Arizona, I saw regualr unleaded prices were at $0.759 a gallon. We could do the same with iraqi oil now. Give ourselves the time to develop and get into place that fuel and, if need be, new engines to run it. Current biofuels don't work well in the southwest during summer, I'd imagine that if they have issue with condensation in the southwest, they likely are prone to freezing in states with very cold winters. We can do better given time and if we have funds freed up from paying opec.
I think that, due to the level of support troops enjoy now, as high as that of WWII troops, someone with a personal agenda tacked something about the troops onto this petition to gain extra signatures - no one I know is talking about energy dependence as a primary concern in the military. That upsets me.

The only worthwhile clean energy is nuclear and it is by far the cheapest. Relying on oil is foolish because it will run out eventually and then reliability is placed on foreign imports which can hold a country to ransom, so provide clean energy the nuclear way.
Oil was supposed to run out in the 70's. And Nuclear? RELIABLE?! Tell that to Chernobyl and Japan, AND 3 MILE ISLAND!
Oh please don't bring that up. We in the West have some of the finest nuclear engineers and scientists anywhere and are much more likely to keep this form of energy safe. I have worked with these guys and they are dedicated in their work and know what they are doing. Chernobyl and Japan were dreadful accidents, one because there was carelessness and the other because of an eathquake. Believe me nuclear energy is the future.
They leave families behind to go off and protect us....I am saddened by the lack of...well everything the military men and women must deal with...they get substandard pay to go out and risk there lives...and on top if that some people treat them badly....just so sad! I am proud of our soldiers and all they sacrafice to keep us safe!
I agree Rose! Anybody who DISRESPECTS our troops, our soldiers, and our FLAG should be held in Guantanamo for treason and be treated as triators to our nation.
