Challenge Japan to END Taiji Dolphin Hunt for Tokyo 2020 Olympic bid

We respectfully ask that you do NOT consider Japan's Tokyo 2020 Olympic bid, until the Japanese Government agrees to end the brutal Taiji Dolphin Drive Hunt, by making it illegal to hunt all Dolphins in Japan.
If Tokyo wants the honor of being an Olympic Host City, Japan must be held accountable for allowing fishermen to continue these unnecessary annual dolphin hunts and hunting whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, in the name of tradition.
Since 2009 there has been a worldwide outcry condemning this barbaric and outdated hunt. Still, in 2013, Japan refuses to address and discontinue this annual slaughter. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) cannot ignore this any longer.

This is Japan's 5th Olympic bid, since their 1964 Olympics. They are very eager to be selected as Host City again to boost their economy after the devastating tsunami & Fukushima nuclear disaster. By challenging Tokyo's 2020 Olympic bid, it's a demonstration that the world is condemning the actions of this hunt and offers support to people within Japan who also strive to end this practice once and for all. Japanese Government grant permits to the Taiji Fishermen's Union to hunt 2,800 dolphins from September to April for slaughter & to supply the captivity trade. While this is not illegal in Japan, the hunt has been condemned internationally as barbaric.  Despite claims that the killing is swift & humane there is extensive evidence to prove otherwise. In this daily hunt, babies are torn from their mothers, many dolphins witness the slaughter of their entire families before either being taken captive or killed. The manner in which they are killed (a spear to the spinal cord which takes up to 7 minutes to die in agony) is unspeakable and inhumane. The hunt continues, hidden under tarpaulins in an attempt to conceal the slaughter, they clearly know what they are doing is wrong. Many Japanese people are becoming aware & condemning it, but most are afraid to speak out. All pleas to stop the killings are ignored by the people who have the power to stop it. The dolphin hunt is a lucrative business for the Taiji fishermen, the big money is in the captive trade supplying marine shows, with prime specimens selling for ¥800,000 in Japan, but much more abroad.  Captives are initially held in cove sea pens, while buyers are found, starved & traumatised, many die waiting. Those not selected for captivity are slaughtered for human consumption, despite health warnings regarding the excessively high mercury content. This meat sells for around $22 per kilo. Many alternatives have been put forth including turning the otherwise beautiful town of Taiji into a tourist attraction for whale and dolphin watching that allows the fishermen to continue to be employed, but they are repeatedly rejected in the name of "tradition" The Japanese whaling fleet is the only fleet in the world that continues to hunt under the guise of research, in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, a sanctuary where endangered species are meant to be safe from poaching, allowing their numbers to recover from the toll of relentless hunting.  Australia has instituted proceedings against Japan in The International Court of Justice regarding Japan's 'Scientific Whaling Program'. The trial will run from 26th of June to 16th of July. More information on the trial can be found here:http://www.icj-cij.org/docket/files/148/17298.pdf If the IOC Evaluation Commission does not challenge these unsustainable atrocities under their Mandate for Environmental responsibility during the selection process, it will be perceived that by ignoring this, the IOC are actually endorsing the hunts. If Tokyo's bid is announced as the winning bid on the 7th of September 2013. Japan will continue to hunt these very social, amazingly intelligent animals, with large brains, closest in structure to the human brain, capable of higher brain functions & emotions like humans, and they will eventually be driven to extinction.  The International Olympic Committee have the opportunity to make real changes in Japan, they can no longer disregard important environmental issues that contravene their own regulations, which potential host nations are meant to be compliant with, we MUST ensure that they listen to the concerned masses, NOT the people who profit from this shameful 'tradition'.To clarify, at no point do I condone boycotting Japan, nor do I incite hatred, violence or negativity towards Japanese citizens. Please join one of our GLOBAL events on 29.06.13 or consider hosting your own.! No time to rest, September is fast approaching, which will see the start of the next hunt season & the announcement of the winning bid in Buenos Aries on Sept 7th. We need to keep up the pressure & make sure that the International Olympic Committee hear our voices.

We are hosting another global awareness day on June 29th 2013, just before the IOC meet in Switzerland to consider all three bids, find an event HERE...if there is no event near you, please consider setting up your own event, we have a unique chance to make a real difference to the conservation of Whales & Dolphins.

Many of our hosts have never done anything like this before, but they feel so appalled by these barbaric hunt, the are making a stand. Once you set up an event in your area, via Facebook, you will find that many people locally will join & support you. All information & guidance can be found HERE

There is just NOT enough HUMANITY in this world. Not enough LOVE, NOt Enough RESPECT towards NATURE. I am just really done holding out for hope for the human race. Why do all these INGORANT, VIOLENT pieces of SHIT think or even have the ordasity to think that what they are doing to these INNOCENT Animals( Be it, Dolphins, Seals, Otters, Wolves, or any other Animals) is right and justifiable. Satan truly does have a stronghold on this Earth. There are only so many of us, who TRULY do care,...

Satan truly does have a stronghold on this Earth. There are only so many of us, who TRULY do care, and RESPECT Animals. But we are so few and far between. And EVIL has such a GREAT number, that its just so disheartning, and almost NOT worth the fight. Im so sick of living on PLANET STUPID.

As long as money can be earned and people are willing to see this kind of thing it will continue no need for Satan here humans can do all that all by themselves.

Joy Butler Markham

But the humans HAVE to be stopped by the masses ?

This is a complete outrage. Very disgusting no less to see gods creatures slaughtered in the hands of humans for there own amusement. We have seal clubbings whale killings and dolphins being hunted. Why? We all need to draw the line somewhere. Who gives us the right to punish these animals and be sick enough to call it a sport. This is wrong and it needs to stop. Stricten laws to prevent animals as innocent as they are to be butchered for sport, profit, or simply because we can over power...

Stop the mayhem

What I really hate about living as a human being is that most evil comes from MEN, not WOMEN!
Men are butchers, murderers, rapists and poachers, men start wars and have disgusting habits throughout all cultures. Men must be reduced in a selective way!

Shall we meet and work out a plan? It only works with a clever strategy and that must be planned. Mind you not all men are evil, there are some gentle ones like me...

Katherine Lee

It is true that men tend to commit more violent crimes; it's partly evolutionary and partly cultural. women can still be just as malevolent, but it occurs less. But getting rid of men won't achieve anything - that would just be more violence... :P We need our laws and the way we raise our children to promote equality, communication, appreciation of diversity, peace and respect. please consider signing this petition that aims to help shut down Chinese fur farms and the skinning alive of cats, dogs and other poor creatures: http://www.causes.com/actions/1736270-petition-stop-the-torture-slaughter-of-animals-for-fashion

What else is important to the Japanese that could be boycotted ? Might the UN be bombarded with a letter from each one of us ?? or the Japanese hierarchy, 364,000 letters !!! might they get the message ? Even an appeal to the Japanese Government from each one of us !!!

I don't know which is worse... canned hunts or slaughtering dolphins or clubbing seals. Who could do these awful acts????

It is simply horrible. I'll never understand these ruthless mercenaries. please consider signing this petition that aims to help shut down Chinese fur farms and the skinning alive of cats, dogs and other poor creatures: http://www.causes.com/actions/1736270-petition-stop-the-torture-slaughter-of-animals-for-fashion

Completely agree with Aaron Jason Cumbie, those of us who care must keep battling to stop these people... I pray that there are enough people who do TRULY care...

Not enough loving people in the world anymore this is not right at all what have these animals done to us nothing and we hurt them and its just so wrong..

...slowly, step by step, I am beginning to understand, that we are on the edge of a very serious time on behaving to treat animals as if they were litter....we use them and throwe them away...just like a bag of plastic or anything like that...

In Victorian times in the UK the family entertainment was to go to the Lunatic Asylum to laugh at the inmates we have come slightly farther but not much... cruelty has always been a human thing...but hopefully Facebook will make a differencee.
