I am excited to share that after the first day of the Suburban Collection's Great Charity Giveaway, SOS is in 2nd place out of 76 charities with 102 votes! The $15,000 award for 1st place is enough for SOS to provide 1,000 nights of shelter and supportive services for people who need our help.

South Oakland Shelter provides emergency and transitional shelter, supportive services, and housing assistance to homeless and at-risk children and adults, to those who have truly lost the most in this tough economy, to victims of domestic violence, and to people struggling with addiction disorders.
Why is this campaign important to you?
Many people think that homeless is a choice. What about the teenage girl or boy who gets thrown out of their house because their parents can't deal with there acting out. What about your neighbor who smiles at you each day as they leave home when tomorrow is the day their home is not going to be their for them to sleep in. Homelessness is not always a choice, many times it is the only alternative. And the living conditions in some homeless shelters, please , do not believe for one minute...

And the living conditions in some homeless shelters, please , do not believe for one minute that homeless shelters meet sanitary codes that are of exceptional standards. And not all employees at shelters are as law abiding a they would have you believe. I have been in shelters and have seen and heard things that where obvious cover ups for other employees.
