Mission

Our mission is to create and increase public awareness of missing people. Project Jason seeks to bring hope and assistance to families of the missing by providing resources and support.

Positions

  1. All missing persons are loved by someone, and their families deserve to find the answers they seek in regards to the disappearance.
  2. Awareness is the key to location.
  3. We need the public's support and understanding of our cause in order to accomplish our goals.
  4. Budgets are cut, and often law enforcement does not have the training needed to effectively work missing persons cases.
  5. Having a family member or close friend inexplicably disappear does not happen to everyone, yet it happens more often than you would think.

Description

About the Founder: Kelly's son, Jason, disappeared on June 13, 2001, at age 19, from the driveway of their home in Omaha, NE. Over 6 years later, the Jolkowski family lives with no leads or clues in Jason's disappearance. Since then Kelly has become an active advocate for families of the missing.

She was instrumental in passing Jason's Law, which mandated the creation of the Nebraska State Missing Person's Clearinghouse. Kelly also founded Project Jason, a nonprofit organization which assists families of the missing nationwide. She has had over 100 hours of professional training in respect to missing persons from various sources, including NCMEC, DOJ, and Fox Valley Technical College.

Kelly has spoken at several national events including the National Sex Offender Management Conference, Fox Valley's Uniting in the Search for the Missing, and the National Candlelight Vigil. She was the keynote speaker twice at NCMEC's Ride for Missing Children and also for the annual New York State Missing Person's Day in 2005.

She has developed several unique awareness programs to help locate the missing, including the 18 Wheel Angels, Adopt a Missing Person, and Come Home. Kelly is currently spearheading the Campaign for the Missing, a 50 state grassroots effort to pass the missing person legislation developed by the DOJ. Several states have now passed this legislation with her guidance, and several more are in progress.

In addition, Kelly works daily with families of the missing nationwide through Project Jason and also with TEAM Hope, a branch of NCMEC. The efforts to find her son continue on as a regular, although not normal, part of her life.

The MySpace Causes was meant for nonprofits, but because of a little loophole wherein you didn't have to open it up to donations, it is being used for all sorts of purposes. I'd like our supporters to switch to My Favorite Nonprofits as that appears not to have any of those loopholes and the NPO's are verified. My Causes is a good thing, but I do feel that NPO's should be separate and distinct from general causes. Thanks everyone!

    Hi everyone!

I am back from my speaking engagement and am now catching up on things. Welcome to the new members of our cause.

While we didn't make the goal of 600 members upon my return, we came pretty darn close. I am so very pleased with where we are in this. I love to see everyone working so hard as a team to make this happen.

There are many parallels to Jason's life and the life cycle of Project Jason.

Jason is an underdog. Because of his learning disabilities, things were not easy for him. People did not understand him, and sometimes treated him badly. Despite all this, he came to gain the respect and love of all his classmates. He had a following as a DJ even with his speech and language difficulties. I found that to be amazing. He didn't give up when it would have been easy to do so.

Project Jason started from our kitchen table with no money and just a small group of volunteers. We, however, had a big heart and a determination that we could make a difference for the families of the missing in Jason's name. Even though we have received little support in these past four years since our inception, making us an underdog just like Jason, we don't plan on giving up.

Now, with the help of the good people here, we CAN accomplish more.

So, my thanks for all of you for playing a part in this.

    Many blessings,
    Kelly
