Ban horse slaughter and the export of horses for Slaughter in Canada

1. Canada must end horse slaughter
2. Canada must ban the export of horses for slaughter
3. We need to end this barbaric journey of death
4. Banning horse slaughter will greatly decrease horse theft.

We are the Canadian Horse Protection Network. Our goal is to ban the cruelty and barbaric journey associated with Horse slaughter in Canada. Approximately 55,000 horses from Canada were slaughtered last year for human consumption in Japan and Europe. These horses endure an avg of over 700miles on a truck. 36 hour stints without food, water or rest. They travel on often over crowded inappropriate transport. They are kept in often over crowded pens and feedlots that offer very little if any, food, water and/or shelter from the weather. Most trucks arrive with dead horses on board. Horses that were too weak to continue the journey. Horses that were too lame to stay standing. Horses that were too slow for the track, or no longer needed on the farm. Horses that were once loved. That were hunters, jumpers, Dressage horses, trail horses and backyard ponies. Horses that were STOLEN. Horse and ponies, some good, some not so good, but none deserve such a horrific journey.

We have the stats and reports to demonstrate that horse slaughter is NOT a NECESSARY EVIL. That ceasing horse slaughter DOES NOT result in cruelty and neglect.
The journey of death is nothing short of cruel and barbaric. The survivors are met with a bullet to the head. The 'lucky ones' die before the journey has ended.
The US has banned horse slaughter so this is resulting in an increase in horses coming to Canada for slaughter. That means LONGER transport for those horses.
We need to ban horse slaughter and this must include banning the export of horses for slaughter so that they don't endure the most horrific of slaughter practices as that in Mexico.
