Mission

Make marijuana medically available to patients in need (known as "legalizing medical marijuana"), and taxing and regulating marijuana for general adult use (known as "marijuana regulation").

Positions

  1. Increase public support for marijuana regulation.
  2. Identify and activate supporters of medical marijuana and marijuana regulation.
  3. Change state laws to legalize medical marijuana and/or regulate marijuana.
  4. Increase the credibility of marijuana policy reform on Capitol Hill.

Description

Our marijuana laws aren't working. They cost taxpayers billions of dollars a year, keep police away from focusing on real crimes, and don't keep marijuana away from minors.

Nearly 800,000 Americans are arrested on marijuana charges each year - one arrest every 40 seconds. And 9 out of 10 arrests are for possession, not distribution.

72% of American adults believe that marijuana users should not be jailed - and a whopping 80% support legal access to medical marijuana for seriously ill patients.

MPP is leading the fight to replace marijuana prohibition with taxation and regulation. It's just common sense.

MPP, the largest marijuana policy reform organization in the U.S., works to remove criminal penalties for marijuana use, with an emphasis on protecting seriously ill medical marijuana patients from arrest and jail. MPP has 23,000 members, 32 staffers, and an annual budget of $6 million.

When MPP was founded in 1995, medical marijuana was illegal in every state and favorable legislation had not been introduced in Congress in a decade. Since then, the federal penalties for marijuana cultivation have been changed to provide for the early release of hundreds of prisoners; medical marijuana bills have been introduced in six consecutive Congresses, with the U.S. House debating and voting on our legislation five years in a row; medical marijuana is now legal in 12 states; and much more.

MPP is changing laws. Will you help?

Personally, I think if we're going to call this a free country then maybe we should have the freedom to choose...people just need to open their eyes and stop having so much faith in a system that since the beginning has been based on nothing but lies.

In Ky you can get up to a year in jail just for rolling papers or a roach!! The police arrested some guys the other night because they said they smelled them smoking on their own front porch, when they drove by! Give me a break. The jails here in Ky are over crowded. The state is out of money what a joke. Hell if you cook meth they will send you to rehab and let you go to drug court and the state pays for that lol. But if they find a pot plant you would think someone got murdered. They bring in the DEA ATF and all This state is a joke. If house prices wasnt to hell I Think I would move to Oregon my brother was a care giver there and he could have up to 3lbs as long as he had his card. They need to worry about the real criminals. High as gas is some probaly has to sell some to buy gas LOL. This is just one screwed up world. I feel sorry for my children growing up in this mess. I guess im done preaching for now lol. I just get things on my mind so when I do I have ta let it out. At least I can always buy anouther keyboard if I mash to hard on the keys. But atleast these letters I type dosn't harm no one!!! Thanks for reading ~Joe~

It depends on which state you live in how much they arrest people for possession. Texas has one of the highest arrest rates for possession and it does not matter the quantity. It is in the top 5 of items they prosecute and arrest for.

To legalize it we need to inform people and educate them that the US Govt lied to us. Please inform people of the TRUTH

I think they need to leaglize marijuana not only for medical purposes but for dail smoking.I just don't see why they think they need to take something away thats natural and does no harm.
My mom has very bad sleeping problems, she's on I don't know how many prescribed medications that do not work for her.I keep telling her that she needs to start smoking weed and she won't have the problem.SOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T FUCKING GET IT!!
