Description
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body, including the skin, joints, heart, lungs, blood, kidneys and brain. Normally the body's immune system makes antibodies to protect the body against viruses, bacteria, and other foreign materials. In an autoimmune disorder like lupus, the immune system cannot tell the difference between foreign substances and its own cells and tissues. The immune system then makes antibodies directed against itself (auto-antibodies) which cause inflammation, pain and damage in various parts of the body.
The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) estimates between 1.5 - 2 million Americans have a form of lupus, but the actual number may be higher. More than 90% of people with lupus are women. Symptoms and diagnosis occur most often when women are in their child-bearing years, between the ages of 15 and 45, but Lupus can affect anyone.
Donations from individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations enable the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) to conduct and expand its programs of life-saving medical research, education and patient advocacy to bring an end to lupus.

I have Lupus and been battling it for over 12 yrs.. or more but at least 12 yrs. diagnosed, we need more awareness and support to help find a cure, I got a tattoo last night to support and fly my purple to everyone and expose more awareness.

I have Lupus as well as someone Near and Dear to me! I was diagnoised with Lupus just recently...but My doctor and I both know I have had it for a good 10 years....If any of this can help someone get an earlier diagnosis...then it will all be worth it....Tammy

i really hope they find a cure i been threw so much with this disease i had it since i was just 7 years old and has went threw so many operations i know people are dieing from alot of other things but we all need help and we need a cure for all these diseases and to stop the people from being in pain, i want them to stop charging so damn much for medication i know people who cant even take there medication on time because there saving it up and trying to make it threw god help us all, im sorry i said so much lol...
