Think Autism.
Donations to this cause benefit NATIONAL AUTISM ASSOCIATION INC.
Mission
make the public aware of autism and to raise money to increase funds for research and treatment.
Positions
- People should be made aware of autism and how prevalent it is in today's society
Description
Today, 1 in 150 individuals is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. [The 1 in 150 children figure recently quoted by the CDC was for the 1994 birth cohort. The number was out-of-date by 13 years when it was released!]
I can almost promise you know someone affected, as my brother has Asperger Syndrome.
-----------------------
The National Autism Association [the cause this group helps fund] helps those with autism by:
Ø fund important scientific research to determine the cause of autism to prevent it in the future and treat those with autism now
Ø have a Helping Hand program that gives money to families of autistic individuals in need – helping them pay for treatments and other critical services, that without us, would not be possible
Ø have a Family First program that provides counseling services to families who are threatened by divorce thus disrupting very vulnerable children’s treatments and services
Ø lead national and statewide advocacy efforts to urge our lawmakers in Congress and legislatures to provide sorely needed autism research money, write new policy and uphold education laws to help those in need.

Wendy,
I wouldn't really go by an IQ test to determine your sons intelligence. It is hard to say how "smart" a person is when they can not speak and answer questions et c. It is my understanding that it is a non verbal test, but I still do not put too much thought in to "their" numbers. Afterall, genius was once considered "madness".
