Description

1 in 3 people will develop cancer in their lifetime, and 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer. Cancer the 2nd leading cause of death in the world, killing 7.6 million people each year. The leading cancer in women is breast cancer, with 1.2 million diagnosed globally and killing 500,000 each year.

Breast cancer is the leading cancer in women, representing 31% of all cancer in U.S. women. (Although men also suffer from breast cancer, 99% of all breast cancers occur in women). Breast cancer kills 500,000 people globally, and 1,200,000 are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.

Cancer research details:

Mission: We are a non-profit campaign dedicated to forging alliances between scientists, lay public, and corporations/ foundations to establish novel avenues for high-paced, cutting-edge cancer research. And we are dedicated to disseminating cancer prevention knowledge to communities and spurring the translation of cancer research discoveries to practical prevention and treatment approaches for the public.

Our research benefits the Nurses' Health Study of cancer causes and preventions at Harvard Medical School.

"[The Nurses' Health Study] is one of the most significant studies ever conducted."
-Donna Shalala, Former Secretary of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

The Nurses' Health Study (of Brigham and Women's Hospital, a flagship hospital of Harvard Medical School) is the world's LARGEST and LONGEST-running study into understanding cancer causes and preventions in women. The NHS has led the world in finding causes, preventions, and treatments for cancer for >30 years.

Our research was recently featured in TIME Magazine as one of the TOP 10 MEDICAL BREAKTHROUGHS of 2007:

However, due to limited federal funds, research dollars from public donations are becoming ever more critical to continue the vital research into women's cancers.

Please consider supporting the cause--all donations *DIRECTLY* benefit our breast cancer research! (Even a small $5-$10 tax-deductible donation can significantly help efforts to find a cure) Thank you for your support.

I am greatly looking forward to being able to be a part of something that is so near and dear to me in honor of my brother J.D. He died at the tender age of 4 in 1989 after fighting a brain tumor for 2 years. Those events even though I was also young at the time, changed my life forever! I owe much thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation and plenty more to many others. I also would like to type a moment of silence........His 24th birthday is on April 30th! Happy Birthday J.D. Love your Big Sis
