STOP Puppy Mills
Donations to this cause benefit Humane Society of The United States.
Mission
Educate others about the reality of puppy mills and the dogs they purchase from pet stores and the internet.
Positions
- Puppy mill dogs often have health and behavior problems.
- Consider adopting from a local shelter instead of buying a puppy from a pet store or an internet ad.
- Puppy mill dogs are raised in poor conditions and lack social interaction.
Description
Puppy mills are breeding facilities that house dogs in poor conditions where they are bred and sold for profit. Many of these dogs are caged for years, bred continuously, and lack social skills because they receive no human companionship.
Once puppy mill dogs are no longer fertile, they are commonly killed, abandoned, or sold to another puppy mill. The result of puppy mills is hundreds of thousands of puppies, many with behavior or health problems, and many with little hope of ever being adopted.
Puppy mills exist because unsuspecting consumers keep buying dogs from pet stores, classifieds, or over the internet. It is up to us to spread the word and educate our friends and family about the reality of puppy mills.

I used to work in a store that sold puppy mill dogs so I know 1st hand what it's like... you really can't blame the people who work there. They are told & "trained" (yes, TRAINED) to tell customers that the puppies come from reputable "business breeders," even though no one really ever gets to see first hand what those facilities are like. The truth is that no matter what store it is, the puppies come through a broker & brokers only deal with mills. Reputable breeders would NEVER sell their well-bred, expensive puppies to just anyone, espeically at such a cheap price. What it really comes down to is this... and please pass this along... if you buy a puppy from a store or an online-only vendor, YOU'RE BUYING A PUPPY MILL DOG!! Why support this when so many puppies are dying because of it?? It truly breaks my heart!!!
