| Description: |
Empowerment: DYNA empowers our members by providing them with the necessary tools to become active participants in their own future. We are a dynamic group of positively focused and determined individuals. Without exception, our members face each day with profound courage and incredible strength despite the betrayal of their uncooperative bodies. Instead of feeling sorry for themselves, DYNA members are taking action, promoting awareness, and helping each other. DYNA members are overcoming not succumbing to their medical challenges. Newsletter: Our "Young and the Dizzy." newsletter is mailed to Children's Hospital's, various medical facilities, physicians, schools, and private individuals throughout the world. Much of this newsletter is written by the youth in our organization. The newsletter contains professional articles by the top experts within the specialty of dysautonomia treatment and research. It includes original information that will help parents, doctors, families, and schools better understand dysautonomia conditions. Conference: DYNA holds an annual "DYNA Summer Chill" conference in July. At this event we sponsor social and support activities for our members. We provide a relaxed atmosphere with opportunity for families to mix with other families facing similar medical ordeals. The highlight of the event is the "Goofy Slipper" Lecture on dysautonomia. This lecture is informative and inspiring and includes our DYNA members and medical lectures provided by numerous highly respected physicians (recently lectures were conducted by physicians from the Medical University of Ohio, Mayo Clinic and NY Medical College). Support: DYNA understands the stress that families with dysautonomia conditions experience. We give our members an opportunity to share their experiences, anxieties and thoughts with others in the same situation. We put youth with dysautonomia conditions in touch with each other in a secure and private manner via Internet access. We also provide a Postal Outreach Program for those children without access to the Internet (our Amish members and younger children). Our organization provides literature to assist our members with the various medical and support issues that they face. The DYNA office is available to answer questions and to provide support on educational and social issues faced by our members. Awareness: Dysautonomia conditions are widely unknown. Because of this, there exists a shocking ignorance about the life-style impact on these young heroes and their families. What dysautonomia patients need most is support, understanding and encouragement to help them deal with this complex, debilitating, and poorly understood group of disorders. Awareness crusades promoted by the youth themselves are addressing this problem community by community, and DYNA members are making a difference one by one. |
