Celebrations are in order – we did it!

On behalf of everyone at AT&T, NOYS (the National Organizations for Youth Safety), and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), we would like to thank all of you who supported our pledge campaign against texting and driving. So far we've reached thousands of friends and family and spread awareness about the dangers of texting from behind the wheel. Not only are we saving lives on the road, but we've managed to raise $100,000! These funds will help NOYS and SADD expand their safe teen driving programs across the country and empower more young leaders to champion the fight against texting and driving.

We couldn't have done so much, so quickly without you! But remember, it doesn't stop here. We need your help to keep the movement going. Please continue to spread the word about the dangers of texting while driving. You could save the life of a loved one!

Thank you everyone for taking the pledge to not text and drive and always remember: no message is worth a life. It can wait.

    FROM NOYS

National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that supported NOYS's pledge campaign to not text while driving. Together, we reached thousands of friends and family to spread awareness about the importance of safe driving and to ultimately save lives on the road. In addition to saving lives, you helped us raise $50,000! These funds will help enhance NOYS's safe teen driving programs and offer more leadership opportunities for youth. The pledge campaign would not have been possible without the generous support from AT&T. Again, thank you everyone for taking the pledge to not text while driving!

    FROM SADD

SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) would like to thank all of you that pledged not to text while driving and asked your friends and family to do so as well. Thanks to your pledges, SADD will receive $50,000 from AT&T! We plan to use these funds to develop a student speakers bureau for events around the country. The bureau will urge the public to drive safely and without distraction, helping to multiply the message even more. Special thanks to AT&T for their amazing commitment to safe driving and teens – what an inspiring effort! Thanks again, everyone!

  2. Update #3

    Posted on Sep 25, 2012

Due to your overwhelming support and the importance of this issue, we're pledging an additional $50,000 donation and we're bringing a new partner into the mix – SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). For every new pledge, we'll donate $2 to SADD and for every five friends you invite we'll donate an additional $5, up to a total of $100,000 being shared by NOYS and SADD. But don't forget, it's not all about the money, we're doing this to raise awareness about the It Can Wait message, no text is worth a life.

  3. Update #2

    Posted on Sep 19, 2012

In less than a week, more than 24,000 of you have taken the pledge and helped raise $50,000 to support NOYS and advance AT&T's efforts against texting and driving. Thanks to all of you for truly driving this campaign forward!

But . . . we can't hit the brakes quite yet. The movement must go on. You overwhelmed us with your response, and as we ponder our next move, you can still make an impact to save lives. We encourage you to keep sending the message to your friends and loved ones: no text is worth the risk, It can wait!

A new survey commissioned by AT&T as part of the “It Can Wait” campaign indicates that while 97 percent of teens know texting while driving is dangerous, 43 percent of them admit to sending a text while driving – and 75 percent say the practice is common among their friends.

The survey found that teenagers feel pressure to quickly respond to text messages – and adults are also setting a poor example by texting while driving themselves.

The survey found that teenagers feel pressure to quickly respond to text messages – and adults are also setting a poor example by texting while driving themselves.

With prom, graduation and summer nearing, we head into the “100 deadliest days” for teen drivers on the road – the days between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Texting also ranks as the No. 1 mode of communication among teens. On average, teens text five times more a day than a typical adult. When this habit hits the road, drivers who text are 23 times more likely to be in an accident or near-accident.

The stats don't lie. Make sure you talk to your friends and family about the dangers of texting and driving.

In support of students graduating across the country AT&T is donating $2 (up to $90,000) for each person who leaves a comment about what they will do to support students graduate. 1 in 4 students don't graduate. There is something we all can do support our young and talented students nationwide.
