I pledge to recycle my computer equipment at Goodwill® to kick off the new year
Take the Pledge30,966 people took the pledge
We've all heard it before, "out with the old in with the new." With your new technology from the holiday season, "out" usually means stashing old electronic products in attics, garages, or garbage bags bound for the local dump.
As you replace old products with new, we strive to do our part to keep e-waste out of landfills by pledging to recycle 1 billion pounds of used electronics by 2014. But we can't do with without your help. That's why we created Dell Reconnect, a partnership with Goodwill Industries® that gives you an easy and convenient way to recycle your outdated technology.
You can simply drop off their unwanted computer equipment (of any brand, in any condition) at one of nearly 2,500 Goodwill's participating locations in the United States or Canada, where the items are evaluated and either responsibly recycled or resold through Goodwill stores.
As if you needed one more reason to get rid of all that clutter - every donation helps someone in your community with disabilities or disadvantages receive work and life skills through this Dell-sponsored program. You'll also keep e-waste from ending up in landfills and enable many families to buy the quality, affordable goods they need.
To find participating Goodwill locations and see a list of qualified/accepted computer electronics, please visit dellreconnect.com. If you don't have a Goodwill location near you, visit dell.com/usrecycling to find another convenient recycling program.

U.S. consumers have an estimated 3 billion pounds of computers and electronics in their homes and it's safe to say that number will continue rising. Luckily, the Dell Reconnect program makes it easy to clean out all those unwanted computer electronics stashed away in attics and basements by asking people to donate them to Goodwill.
Watch this new video to learn more about how Dell Reconnect is turning electronics into recycled materials, offering refurbished products to families, and creating green jobs.
This holiday encourage your friends to take the pledge to responsibly recycle technology that they no longer need.

Update #2
Posted on Dec 6, 2012Did you know that 4 million tons of electronic waste (e-waste) end up in US landfills every year? That's nearly four laptops for every person in the country! This is why Dell is a supporter of the e-waste export ban – preventing dumping of the world's toxic waste on our world's poorest communities.
Teaming up with Goodwill®, Dell Reconnect is cutting down the amount of e-waste sent to our landfills with innovative recycling and refurbishing programs. Through programs like these, Dell has...

Discuss the pledge
Sadly it seems to me lately, that many Charities are spending more money than they should on the wrong things and sending far too little to the real cause that it's meant for. I wish I knew the EXACT truth...
Way back when I was in college, I was honored to know the man who had been the lead photographer for the old Fox Movietone News - the newsreels they showed in theaters between features. This man was so ethical that he was the only one President Roosevelt allowed to film him being put into or taken out of his wheelchair; he knew it would not be sensationalized. Anyway, this photographer had filmed the Red Cross charging disaster victims for cups of coffee, blankets, etc, and turning them away if they could not pay! Fox destroyed the film because it was too political.
I do not support Red Cross, nor do I support the United Way. United Way was formed to prevent the "serial" poor from seeking relief from more than one agency. If you are a citizen or a legal resident alien, you can get assistance ONLY ONCE from a United Way agency! Yes, GOODWILL IS DIFFERENT!!! So is Salvation Army. Know your charity before you give! And help those that live up to their mandates!
Use them all the time.
The CEO of goodwill makes a salary of almost a million dollars a year.....makes me hesitant to donate to them....
Goodwill can mean more than just the company, school need computers for the kids in the tech programs to rebuild, or take apart to learn. My pledge is to simply recycle it. :) Thank for the info!!
The Goodwill Store in Glasgow, KY won't take computers or anything electronic as they do not have anyone to work on them.
I have read in the Navy Parents Newsletter that the owner of goodwill puts all the money in his pockets and does not donate a dime to charity.
He sounds like a lot of CEOs who run charity organizations.
okay
This is a great idea!
When your computer "dies", donate it to Goodwill.
its better for our planet to recycle than to fill up landfills with thing that can be reused.
This is a beautiful idea.
I ll definitely give when its available. Doing cash work now though ...Thank you sir!
I have been a recycler all of my life, starting at the age of 10!
