According to all independent media reports, police forces in Pittsburgh today forcibly disrupted what until then had been a non-violent protest march at the G20 summit. Reports of what happened next are still coming in, and are contradictory, but what seems clear is that the police opened fire on protesters with various suppression weapons, and that some in the streets threw objects such as bottles.

Alaska's "Governor" recently flew to Kosovo for a phot-op wth Alaska National Guard personnel. The NG troops are apparently (allegedly) in Kosovo as part of a "peace-keeping" mission. Is there specific authorization for NG deployments to Kosovo (or any other place)? Is such authorization legally required?
And does anyone know how many NG members are deployed in Honduras? Does anyone know why U.S. military personnel are stationed in Honduras?

p.s. - as for one of the comments there --- no -- The state militia did not get called up for the invasion of Mexico. Congress and the President didn't dare try it. And as for Canada in 1812 - the NE militia units that got called up (arguably, lawfully, since the U.S. was invaded in that war) refused to go. As for WWII and Korea, etc -- to the extent that Guard was mobilized it was nothing on the order of what we've seen in the last 7 years -- and again, in the case of WWII, the U.S. WAS invaded in that war. Comparing WWII with Iraq is just nonsensical.
Hey John - I just looked at that forum. Yeah, we're crossing some boundaries here. This campaign has already been something else. We've had all kinds of people -- conservatives, communists, liberals, greens, nationalists of different stripes, anarchists, rule of law types, libertarians, you name it -- in touch with us in this campaign so far. Many supportive. It's good with me that the racist nuts on that site don't think much of us . . . let's count them the odd men out . . . but interesting that even they have some trouble with what's been done with the Guard.
What are you doing for Independence Day? Contributing to the national campaign to Bring the Guard Home? That's what we thought. Thank you!

What better way to mark the 4th of July than by helping this nation to "remember the better angels of her nature" (that's Lincoln, folks). Hurray for the American Republic. Down with the American Empire. Bring the Guard home. It's the law.
And it's true what they say. Freedom isn't free. Think of the likes of Lincoln, Emmett Till, the Haymarket Martyrs, Crispus Attucks, and millions more. Many died for our freedoms today. Make a contribution in their memories in advance of the 4th. And then party in good spirits on that day.
