Seedlings Braille Books for Children

Your donation goes to support the core mission of:
Seedlings Braille Books for Children, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit

Seedlings Braille Books for Children was founded in 1984 by Debra Bonde because braille materials for children were scarce and expensive. Her goals were to increase the availability and lower the cost of braille books for children in order to promote their literacy skills and the love of reading. Seedlings' ongoing goal is to increase the rate of braille literacy by ensuring blind children access to many of the the same books that their sighted peers enjoy. By making popular children's books available and affordable in braille, Seedlings offers visually impaired children equal opportunity to develop their literacy skills, and the tools to become lifelong readers and literate adults.

There are never enough titles for our Jonathan to get and even school books are not always available to him. It's hard when another student has to read a chapter to him. Donate if you can.

This is a really cool organization. They make Braille books for children available at a fraction of the cost it takes to make them, and through their Angel program, they even will give away 2 free Braille books to any visually impaired child in the U.S. Although we don't yet know Elli's visual acuity and whether she will need Braille or not, we've already received multiple Braille books from them for free. I'm thankful for organizations such as this one that help to bring the love of reading to V.I. children!!

This is a GREAT organization! They have been making brailled books for my step daughter Magen who is blind for many years and they have kept their prices lower than the cost of making the books so that parents like us can afford to give our children books that they can read and enjoy. Thank you Seedlings! You have brought my step daughter many hours of enjoyment time and time again.

Out of every organization and activity Jay has been involved in since he was born and we knew he could not see, Seedlings has made the biggest difference in his life! He has been reading Seedlings books since he was a baby - almost 13 years now! We appreciate everything Deb and Seedlings does every day - keep it up!

I am humbled and happy to see all the support for braille literacy that has been shown here on the Seedlings cause page. We now have 2500 members ... just in time for Seedlings' 25th Anniversary! Many, many thanks to all of you! Let's get more books into the hands of children who read by touch! They should have equal access to the power of the written word!

My father is no longer with us, but I would like to pay tribute to him today for his help in getting Seedlings started 25 years ago. He not only built my first braille embosser, he also made a generous donation that enabled me to buy a binding machine and some combs and covers so I could start printing and binding our braille books! Many thanks, Dad! There are lots of kids reading because of you!
