About Iraqi Refugee Crisis in Syria

As a result of U.S. invasion of Iraq and sectarian clashes, about 1 million Iraqis have been killed and 5 million Iraqis have been displaced from their homes. A total of 1.5 million of them are now living as refugees in Syria.
Out of those 1.5 million refugees, only 15% are registered by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) that distributes a little over a $100.00 a month to each registered family.
According to the regional officer of UNHCR in Damascus (Sybella Wilkes), the funds that they currently have will only last until August this year (2008).
The Iraqi refugess in Syria need urgent help from everyone.

1. Helping Iraqi refugees is a moral obligation for all Americans, since they have been displaced from their homes after U.S. invasion of Iraq.

2. We, as Americans must reach out to the Syrian people since they have graciously accepted over 1.5 million Iraqi refugees.

3. U.S. must end the war in Iraq and work without pre-conditions with all the countries of the Middle-East as was recommended by the Iraq Study Group.
